‘Fani Willis is an ICON’: Biden White House hailed prosecutor as she pursued charges against Trump

"I can't help but to stan," said one Biden White House official of the Trump foe.

Biden White House staffers praised Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis as she pursued her racketeering case against Donald Trump, calling her an “ICON” as they assisted her failed prosecution, emails obtained by Senate investigators show.

The newly-obtained internal emails from 2023, obtained by Just the News, provide more evidence that the Biden White House was actively supporting Willis as she tried to undercut Trump’s comeback bid ahead of the 2024 election.

For instance, Beth Mueller, an associate White House counsel, sent a late August 2023 email “flagging that House Judiciary sent a letter to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis regarding the Trump indictment.”

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Willis at the time that “it is noteworthy that just four days before this indictment, you launched a new campaign fundraising website that highlighted your investigation into President Trump. Additionally, the forewoman of the special grand jury you convened to investigate President Trump earlier this year bragged during an unusual media tour about her excitement at the prospect of subpoenaing President Trump and getting to swear him in.”

The emails are expected to be made public Tuesday at a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing on the FBI's controversial Arctic Frost investigation into Trump's efforts to contest the 2020 election.

Chairman Chuck Grassley has been investigating whether the Biden DOJ used local prosecutors like Willis in Georgia to pursue angles against Trump that federal prosecutors were not considering, essentially doubling the jeopardy that Trump and his supporters would face in the legal system.

This committee’s investigative work is necessary because during the entire Biden administration my Democratic colleagues didn’t lift a finger to investigate this political rot," Grassley said in a statement to be introduced at Tuesday's hearing.

"They protected the treachery of the Biden-Harris administration. And now you’ll hear them wanting to continue sweeping this under the rug. Don’t listen to them. They’ve lost all credibility on this matter," he added.

The Biden White House and DOJ closely coordinated with Willis and her office, the emails show.

Mueller followed up with an early September 2023 email saying, “For those tracking, Fani Willis sent a response to House Judiciary that is detailed in the following story.”

In her letter back to Jordan, Willis contended, “Your attempt to invoke congressional authority to intrude upon and interfere with an active criminal case in Georgia is flagrantly at odds with the Constitution. [...] There is absolutely no support for Congress purporting to second guess or somehow supervise an ongoing Georgia criminal investigation and prosecution. That violation of Georgia’s sovereignty is offensive and will not stand.”

The same day, Rachel Martinez, a senior legislative affairs adviser at the Biden White House Office of Legislative Affairs, chimed in to shower Willis with praise.

“Fani Willis is an ICON - I can't help but to stan,” the Biden White House official said. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “stan” as “an extremely or excessively enthusiastic and devoted fan.”

Memos from Willis’s office, obtained earlier this year by Just the News through a Georgia open records lawsuit, provided the most extensive evidence to date that the Fulton County prosecutor coordinated extensively with the Biden Justice Department and White House as well as Democrats on the House Jan. 6 investigative committee as she built her failed criminal case against the then-former president.

The Biden White House cleared the way for Willis’s team to interview former Trump administration officials by waiving claims of executive privilege, which traditionally protects communications within the executive branch, a move which made Willis’s job much easier.

The Biden Justice Department also "invited" Willis to apply for a $2 million "sole-source" grant in 2022 while her investigation was accelerating, as part of more than $18 million in federal funding her office received during her tenure.

Willis’s close ally, Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade, also billed Fulton County for an "interview with DC/White House" in November 2022. Despite the billing, the county claimed Wade kept no records of what occurred during this interaction.

And internal communications revealed Willis’s office collaborated extensively with the Democrat-led House Jan. 6 Committee, appearing to receive "oral summaries" of witness testimony and access to committee documents in Washington, D.C.

Willis had initiated the inquiry against Trump following audio that surfaced of an early January 2021 call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which Trump said “I just want to find 11,780 votes” in the Peach State. She filed racketeering charges against Trump and numerous Republican allies in 2023.

Georgia’s Court of Appeals ruled in December 2024 that Willis could not keep pursuing her prosecution of Trump. The Georgia Supreme Court in September declined to hear an appeal over the removal of Willis.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled in November that the full case brought by Willis was being dismissed.

“LAW and JUSTICE have prevailed in the Great State of Georgia, as the corrupt Fani Willis Witch Hunt against me, and other Great American Patriots, has been DISMISSED in its entirety,” Trump celebrated on Truth Social.

McAfee also ruled last month that Willis cannot intervene in a fight for nearly $17 million in compensation for legal fees over the failed racketeering case against Trump and 2020 election supporters.
