President Donald Trump has commuted the sentence of a President Joe Biden impeachment witness and former Hunter Biden business partner who was in prison after being convicted for defrauding a Native American tribe.

Trump’s commutation of Jason Galanis’ 14-year sentence marks the second clemency action granted to a key witness in the impeachment proceedings against his predecessor, Joe Biden, whose presidency was beset by corruption allegations related to his son’s overseas business dealings.

Trump commuted Galanis' sentence Monday.

The first witness, longtime Biden business partner and friend Devon Archer, was granted a pardon by Trump last week as he awaited resentencing after he was convicted in the same tribal bonds fraud scheme as Galanis.

Galanis testified to the impeachment inquiry about his involvement in Biden family plans to secure its financial future after then-Vice President Biden left office, including building “a diversified private equity platform, which would be anchored by a globally known Wall Street brand together with a globally known political name,” as he said in his opening statement.

This would be Burnham Asset Management, the firm at the center of the tribal fraud allegations and from which Hunter Biden strenuously distanced himself after the charges against his close partners. Contrary to his public assertions, the Galanis testified that Hunter Biden was closely involved with the plans and that then-Vice President Biden planned to join the firm after his term ended.

Galanis also said he faced retaliation by components of the Biden DOJ after it became likely he would be called to testify in the congressional probe. The Justice Department ultimately denied Galanis’ request for home confinement under CARES Act rules after his former business partner and fellow Hunter Biden associate, Devon Archer, was called to testify.

The allegations spurred a separate congressional investigation, which wrote with concerns that Galanis’ home confinement requests were denied on “erroneous” grounds.
