Trump announces meeting with Putin will take place in Alaska next week
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday that Kremlin officials had "expressed their desire" to meet with Trump and that the president is "open" to meeting with Putin and Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
President Donald Trump on Friday night announced that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week in Alaska.
The meeting comes after Special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Putin on Wednesday, the same day Trump imposed a 50% tariff on India due to their continued purchase of Russian oil.
"The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska," Trump posted on Truth Social. "Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
