President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order that extends the deadline for a ban on the social media platform, TikTok, as his administration promotes a "framework" deal with China that would keep the app in the United States.

The new order extends the deadline through the middle of December, and comes the day after Trump signaled that a deal was in the works. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent clarified that the deal needs to be approved by Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, who are expected to finalize the deal on Friday.

The three-month extension marks the fourth time the Trump administration has pushed the deadline, which instructs the app's Chinese owners, ByteDance, to divest its shares of TikTok. The previous deadline was set to expire Wednesday.

Trump on Tuesday announced that he has secured a U.S. buyer to purchase the app but did not indicate who the buyer was. However, the extension gives the administration time to finalize the purchase.

The new deadline has been set for Dec. 16, 2025.
