President Donald Trump on Friday evening said he believes Hamas is "ready for a lasting peace" after they responded to his proposed Gaza peace plan.

Hamas said it would release all of its hostages back to Israel, including the remains of all dead hostages. It also signaled that it would give up power in the Gaza Strip as a way to end its war with Israel.

The agreement comes after Trump gave the terrorist organization a Sunday deadline to agree to his peace proposal.

Trump appeared confident in Hamas' statement and called for Israel to stop bombing Gaza in order to retrieve the hostages.

"Based on the Statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly. Right now, it’s far too dangerous to do that. We are already in discussions on details to be worked out. This is not about Gaza alone, this is about long sought PEACE in the Middle East."

Trump proposed a 20-point peace plan for the Gaza strip last week, which requires the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the strip and the release of all remaining hostages. Israel would commit to releasing 250 life prisoners and as many as 1,700 Gazans taken into Israeli custody since Oct. 7, 2023.

Under the terms of the agreement, Israel would not be permitted to annex or occupy the Gaza Strip and Trump himself would assume leadership of a "Board of Peace" made up of foreign heads of state to oversee the process until the Palestinian Authority, which governs the West Bank, is ready to assume governance of the region.
