President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order placing 25% tariffs on imported trucks and a 10% tariff on foreign buses, which will go into effect in November.

Trump teased the upcoming tariffs last month and indicated he would also place tariffs on foreign-made cabinets, furniture and pharmacuetical products. It comes after he signed an order requiring truckers to be able to speak English after a series of high-profile driving accidents involving foreigners with commercial driver's licenses made headlines.

The White House said the trucks and buses under the new order will not be subject to additional or existing tariffs on steel, aluminum, copper, automobiles and automobile parts, or reciprocal tariffs imposed on Canada, Mexico, Brazil or India.

"President Trump is fortifying America’s ability to manufacture medium- and heavy-duty trucks and essential parts, which is vital for America’s military readiness, emergency response capabilities, and critical infrastructure for economic activity," the White House said in a fact sheet. "Trucks and buses of all kinds are indispensable to military readiness, military troop movements, disaster response, and the continuity of American critical infrastructure and economic stability."

The tariffs will go into effect on Nov. 1, 2025.
