Independent California Rep. Kevin Kiley became the final lawmaker necessary to force a House vote on Ukraine aid by becoming the 218th signature on a discharge petition.

House lawmakers have attempted to get the discharge petition over its final hurdle for nearly a year. The petition was introduced by New York Democratic Rep. Gregory Meeks to help Ukraine get more assistance amid its war with Russia.

GOP Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania and Don Bacon of Nebraska have already signed the legislation and Democrats are now planning to force the vote the first week of June, three anonymous people told Politico

Kiley has not commented on the petition, but it comes after he left the Republican Party in March to become an independent over opposition to the redistricting effort happening nationwide. He plans to continue caucusing with Republicans, which would allow him to keep his positions on committees, with the approval of the party’s leadership.
