The California man charged in connection with the attempt this past weekend to assassinate President Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner waived his right Thursday to challenge his detention in jail while awaiting trial.

The decision appears to have changed the initial decision by the defense team for alleged shooter Cole Tomas Allen to have its client released on bond, according to CNBC.

The bond hearing took place in U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia.

Allen's lawyer, Tezira Abe, told the magistrate judge that she and Allen's other lawyers had difficulty meeting with their client over the past several days, but they were able to speak with him on Thursday morning prior to the hearing.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro's office requested in court filings that Allen be held without bond on charges of trying to assassinate Trump, transportation of a firearm or ammunition in interstate commerce, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.
