Trump denies 'fake news' reports of break in Iran talks
Reports this week emerged that Iran had suspended negotiations with the U.S. due to the continued fighting in Lebanon, which Tehran said was included in the ceasefire.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday denied reports that Iran had broken off negotiations with the United States to end the war and stated that negotiations had continued uninterrupted.
Reports this week emerged that Iran had suspended negotiations with the U.S. due to the continued fighting in Lebanon, which Tehran said was included in the ceasefire.
"Fake News Reports that the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the U.S.A., stopped speaking a few days ago are false and erroneous," Trump posted on Truth Social. "The conversations between us have been going on continuously, including four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago, and today."
"Where they lead, one never knows, but as I told Iran, 'It’s time, one way or another, for you to make a Deal. You’ve been doing this for 47 years, and it cannot be allowed to go on any longer!'" he added.
Though Trump denied the break in negotiations, he also confirmed that he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and insisted that the fighting in Lebanon would stop.
Israel and Hezbollah have clashed amid the Iran war and Jerusalem has sought to eliminate the Iranian proxy, which dominates much of southern Lebanon. Including the region in the broader ceasefire, however, has been a sticking point in negotiations.
