Agents say Mexican immigrant shot in Houston 'weaponized' vehicle against ICE
During a traffic stop arrest on Tuesday that was part of an enforcement operation, the suspect allegedly rammed an ICE law enforcement vehicle and refused to follow multiple verbal commands.
An illegal immigrant from Mexico who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Houston had "weaponized" his vehicle against agents, the agency said.
According to ICE, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was in the U.S. illegally. During a traffic stop arrest on Tuesday that was part of an enforcement operation, Araujo allegedly refused to comply with officers' commands, the Washington Post reported.
“From information we are receiving, he rammed an ICE law enforcement vehicle, refused to follow multiple verbal commands, and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer, resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense,” the agency said in a statement.
Officers contacted emergency services immediately after the shooting, and Araujo died at the hospital, the agency said.
