Bend Police Department officials said Thursday that multiple people were injured, including children, in a mass shooting at the Silver Rail Elementary School in Oregon.
Police officials said in a news briefing that they responded to a call of a shot fired into a car at about 1 p.m. local time. When they arrived at the scene, they learned the shooter had been shot and killed inside the school, according to CNN.
Local medics have transported at least two people to the hospital and the school has been placed on lockdown.
“We’re in the process at this time of evacuating, going room by room, and evacuating each of the people who are in that school,” Sheila Miller, the communications manager with the Bend Police Department, said, according to NBC News.
Miller confirmed that some of the victims include children, though the ages and identities of the victims have not been released. Their conditions are not currently known.
Between 400 and 450 children attend the elementary school, where there is a staff of more than 40 people.
