School shooting near Denver leaves three high school students injured
St. Anthony's Hospital in Lakewood confirmed that it has received three high school students with gunshot wounds, who are all in critical condition.
Three high school students were injured in a shooting on Wednesday at Evergreen High School near Denver, and the shooter is still at large, local law enforcement officials said.
Jacki Kelley, the Public Information Officer for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, said during a press conference that it was not clear how many people were involved in the shooting, or where any suspects were located, per CBS News.
FBI Director Kash Patel said he was aware of the "tragic situation" near Denver and that the FBI was on the scene.
The shooting occurred just after noon local time, and authorities said the scene is still active. Parents with students at the high school are encouraged to stay away from the scene. The reunification center is located at a nearby elementary school.
St. Anthony's Hospital in Lakewood confirmed that it has received three high school students with gunshot wounds, who are all in critical condition.
"We've received three victims, all minors from Evergreen High School. They are currently being actively treated at St. Anthony Hospital. We are a Level 1 Trauma Center and prepared for situations like this," the hospital's President Kevin Cullinan told CBS News. "Each of the victims that we have sustained gunshot wounds ... All three victims are either in the Emergency Department or operating rooms at this time."
The victims have not been publicly identified so far.
Colorado Democratic Gov. Jared Polis said state troopers are also supporting local law enforcement on the scene.
