President Donald Trump on Friday announced that a prospective trade deal with South Korea would include an $8.4 billion agreement for an oil recovery project.

"I am thrilled to announce the Republic of Korea Deal keeps getting BETTER! 8.4 Billion Dollars for an enhanced Oil Recovery Project. Producing more Oil and Gas means American Energy Dominance and Energy Security in the World for the Future!" he posted on Truth Social.

South Korea is one of the remaining major U.S. trade partners that has not yet concluded a revised agreement in the wake of Trump's April 2025 "Liberation Day" tariffs.

Since returning to the White House, Trump has attempted a comprehensive overhaul of global trade relations in a bid to improve American standing.

He has also worked to bolster American energy production to reduce reliance on other countries.
