President Donald Trump announced Friday that he has spoken to the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam about a potential deal to eliminate U.S. tariffs, following Trump announcing Wednesday a slate of tariffs on U.S. trade partners.

"Just had a very productive call with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, who told me that Vietnam wants to cut their Tariffs down to ZERO if they are able to make an agreement with the U.S.," Trump wrote on TRUTH Social.

He said he looked forward to meeting with Lam in the future, but did not give a specific date.

Vietnam currently charges 90% tariffs to the US. The new tariff on Vietnam is 46%.
