Thousands of flights disrupted in US as 46 million Americans remain under winter weather alerts
The flight tracking website FlightAware has reported over 2,300 flight delays related to the United States so far, while 50 flights have been canceled.
Thousands of flights within, into or out of the United States were disrupted Friday as a winter weather advisory is in place for approximately 46 million Americans nationwide.
The flight tracking website FlightAware has reported over 2,300 flight delays related to the United States so far, while 50 flights have been canceled.
The flight issues come as two separate weather systems threaten to disrupt post-Thanksgiving travel with cold temperatures, heavy snow and dangerous driving conditions in the northeast and the Rockies.
Heavy lake-effect snow will impact the Great Lakes region from Friday through early Saturday morning, and potential whiteout conditions are possible in the northeast during the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
The Midwest is also expected to see heavy snow Friday night that will make driving more difficult in major cities Saturday, such as Chicago; Minneapolis; Des Moines, Iowa; St. Louis; and Kansas City, Missouri, according to NBC News.
Northeastern cities like Boston, New York City and Washington, D.C., are expected to experience cold rain throughout the weekend, but it should clear up by Monday.
