Trump flips script on Dems, claims Biden a 'threat to democracy'
Trump has taken flak from Democrats over his handling of the Jan. 6, 2021, incident at the U.S. Capitol, which many of his critics have labelled an "insurrection."
Former President Donald Trump on Thursday borrowed a popular Democratic accusation against him for use against President Joe Biden, labelling him a "threat to Democracy" ahead of the presidential debate that evening.
"JOE BIDEN IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY, AND A THREAT TO THE SURVIVAL AND EXISTENCE OF OUR COUNTRY ITSELF!!!" Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump has taken flak from Democrats over his handling of the Jan. 6, 2021, incident at the U.S. Capitol, which many of his critics have labelled an "insurrection."
“Today, the instigator of an insurrection is returning to the scene of the crime. January 6th was a crime against the Capitol, that saw Nazi and Confederate flags flying under the dome that Lincoln built,” former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said this month as Trump visited lawmakers in Washington. “It was a crime against the Constitution and its peaceful transfer of power, in a desperate attempt to cling to power."
Trump also aroused similar ire over his comments in a December town hall in which he vowed he would not act as a dictator should he return to the White House "except for day one."
"We're closing the border and we're drilling, drilling, drilling. Other than that I'm not gonna be a dictator," he said at the time.
