Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Sunday hinted that SNAP benefits, also known as food stamps, could restart by Wednesday amid speculation that the ongoing government shutdown could interrupt their distribution.

"Could be," Bessent responded, when CNN's Jake Tapper pressed on the prospect of resolving the situation by then.

“There’s a process that has to be followed, so we’ve got to figure out what the process is,” he said. “President Trump wants to make sure that people get their food benefits.”

The government shut down in early October after the Senate failed to approve a continuing resolution. Democrats have insisted they seek to restore funding to healthcare programs while Republicans have charged they seek to provide healthcare funding for illegal aliens.
