DHS slams Illinois bill to create 'safe zones' for illegals facing ICE arrest
That deployment has reached the Supreme Court, which is expected to hear arguments before the end of the year.
The Department of Homeland Security on Monday excoriated the Illinois state legislature over its passage of a bill to create "safe zones" for illegal aliens facing arrest.
"The Illinois General Assembly just passed the ridiculous HB 1312, a misguided attempt to obstruct law and order," the agency posted.
"This bill undermines community safety by providing sanctuary to criminals at civic centers and other locations statewide.
Our brave law enforcement officers will not be slowed down by obstructionist legislation. The deportations will continue."
Illinois has been at the forefront of opposition to the Trump administration's mass deportation efforts. Gov. JB Pritzker, D-Ill., and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have opposed the deployment of the National Guard to the Windy City.
That deployment has reached the Supreme Court, which is expected to hear arguments before the end of the year.
