The New York Post pointed out that Hedberg’s specific role in the scandal still remains unclear, given that the documents do not explicitly state whether he ever faced formal disciplinary action.
UPDATING
Jason Hedberg, husband of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill, was also involved in the 1994 Naval Academy cheating scandal, according to new documents cited in a new report.
Sherrill was reportedly involved in the scandal, according to previous reports.
Hedberg was among about 50 midshipmen who in 1994 filed suit against the U.S. Naval Academy, the Navy, and the Pentagon. The suit alleged that students were compelled to make self-incriminating statements during an investigation into alleged cheating in violation of due process protections, court records show.
The New York Post pointed out that Hedberg’s specific role in the scandal still remains unclear, given that the documents do not explicitly state whether he ever faced formal disciplinary action. Sherrill's name was omitted from the 1994 commencement program while Hedberg’s name appears in the ceremony program.
Sherrill's campaign has not released her full disciplinary file, citing concerns about privacy.
