Elon Musk drops $10M on pro-Trump, 'anti-McConnell' Senate candidate's super PAC: report

A pro-Trump candidate running to replace the retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., a recurring GOP critic of the president's actions as recently as the Greenland kerfuffle, got tech mogul Elon Musk's largest single contribution ever to a Senate candidate by way of a super PAC, according to Axios.

The on-again, off-again Trump ally dropped $10 million on Fight for Kentucky, which is backing "outsider" entrepreneur Nate Morris, an encouraging sign for the GOP that Musk will come to their rescue again in the midterms after spending nearly $300 million on pro-GOP causes for the 2024 election, Axios said.

Musk came away from a conversation with the candidate "impressed with Morris' business background and anti-establishment message," including his "anti-McConnell" presentation, Axios said, citing "a person familiar with the conversation." Morris and Musk share a personal friend in Vice President J.D. Vance.

The race to replace McConnell as GOP nominee is crowded, including former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and Rep. Andy Barr, while CNN conservative pundit Scott Jennings expressed interest but only if Trump asks him to enter. 

Morris already had endorsements from the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Sens. Bernie Moreno of Ohio and Jim Banks of Indiana, and Trump's former chief strategist Steve Bannon. He plans to "largely" self-fund the campaign through the primary, "a person familiar with his plans" told Axios.
