Former Navy Admiral Nancy Lacore, who was among those removed by War Secretary Pete Hegseth last year, launched a bid Tuesday to represent South Carolina's first congressional district in the House.

Lacore, a former three-star Navy admiral who also served as the chief of the Navy Reserve, claimed she was fired "without cause." She said she was running to represent her district because she cannot "stand by while Americans and South Carolinians are struggling.”

The veteran filed to run as a Democrat but criticized lawmakers on both sides of the aisle for “caring more about party politics than standing up for the Constitution.”

“Our leaders in Congress are not working for us,” Lacore said. “They have lost the courage to act, to fight for and to serve the people they represent."

Lacore is hoping to replace GOP firebrand Rep. Nancy Mace in the lower chamber, now that the lawmaker is hoping to become the state's next governor in November.

Other candidates hoping to replace Mace include Coast Guard veteran Mac Deford, physician Sam McCown and retired Air Force Col. Alex Pelbath, among others.

Potential candidates have until March 30 to enter the crowded primaries. The election is scheduled for June 9.
