Georgia Democrats are urging party member Stacy Abrams not to run for governor in 2026, after two failed bids.

"She's run twice, and that's enough to convince me she won't win," Jimmy Johnson, former chairman of the Appling County Democratic Committee, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper.

The warnings appear preemptive considering Abrams has given no indication she plans to run.

She ran for governor in 2018 and in 2022 and lost both times to GOP Gov. Brian Kemp.

Pete Fuller, chairman of the Jackson County Democrats, gave credit to Abrams for her work with helping disenfranchised voters, but told the newspaper he wanted new Democrats to run.

Kemp cannot seek another term because of state term limits.

"Abrams is great, but she missed the train," Marilyn Langford, a vice chair of the group Georgia 9th District Democrats, said.

Abrams could not be reached for comment.
