Pennsylvania announced this week that it would not set up a booth on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for the "Great American State Fair" event, which is part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding.

The state's Department of Community and Economic Development cited costs and their inability to find local businesses to sponsor the booth as the reason for their decision in a statement to The Hill.

The "Great American State Fair" is a showcase of the 50 states and all U.S. territories on the National Mall and features 16 days of celebrations ahead of July 4. The event has faced scrutiny over allegations of partisanship, which the organizer, Freedom 250, have denied.

Earlier this month, the organization announced a litany of well-known musical acts to headline the event, though many of them withdrew, citing apparent partisanship.
