The State Department on Tuesday confirmed that it had revoked 6,000 student visas since the start of the second Trump administration as the agency pursues a crackdown on immigration.

The reasons for the revocations varied, with some recipients violating the terms of the visas through overstays and other allegedly expressing support for terrorism, Fox News reported.

"Every single student visa revoked under the Trump Administration has happened because the individual has either broken the law or expressed support for terrorism while in the United States," a senior State Department official told the outlet.

"About 4,000 visas alone have been revoked because these visitors broke the law while visiting our country, including records of assault and DUIs," the spokesperson added.

While the criminal element accounted for the lion's share, a number of high-profile cases have involved student visa recipients expressing support for Palestine, Hamas, or otherwise espousing anti-Israel sentiments. The administration has also pursued a rigorous crackdown on antisemitism on college campuses in the wake of Oct. 7.
