President Donald Trump on Monday touted a planned automobile race through the streets of Washington, D.C., as part of the festivities marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Set for Aug. 22-23, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix will include a series of races in the nation's capital. Trump touted the unprecedented nature of the event on Monday, while meeting with many of the drivers.
"Cars racing more than 190 [MPH] and even higher down Pennsylvania Avenue. It wasn't exactly designed for that!" he joked. "If we did that during the regular day people would be in jail for the rest of their lives."
Trump met with several of the drivers for the race at the White House on Monday. He made the remarks in a brief press conference that saw him approach the podium to the tune of Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger."
