The planned meeting also comes as Trump takes a three-day trip to Scotland to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, where he is also expected to discuss trade, and visit his golf properties in the country.

European Union (EU) Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Friday announced that she will meet with President Donald Trump in Scotland this weekend to discuss international trade relations ahead of a possible trade agreement.

The meeting, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, will come just days ahead of Trump's most recent deadline for trade agreements. The United States and the EU almost reached a trade deal last month, but talks have since stalled and Trump threatened 30% tariffs on the union instead.

"Following a good call with [Trump] we have agreed to meet in Scotland on Sunday to discuss transatlantic trade relations, and how we can keep them strong," von der Leyen posted to X.

The planned meeting also comes as Trump takes a three-day trip to Scotland to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, where he is also expected to discuss trade, and visit his golf properties in the country.

Trump has described chances of reaching a trade deal with the EU by the upcoming Aug. 1 deadline as "50-50," but did not expand on the looming holdouts. The president still appeared hopeful about reaching a deal with the EU, stating that despite the 50% chance, he was less optimistic about a deal with Japan before they reached one last week, per Politico.

“I would have said we have a 25 percent chance with Japan. And they kept coming back, and we made a deal,” Trump said.
