UK police charge Ukrainian man with arson over fires at British prime minister's properties
The department identified the suspect as 21-year-old Roman Lavrynovych, and he has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life. Lavrynovych was arrested over the fires on Tuesday.
The London Metropolitan Police Department on Thursday charged a Ukrainian national with arson in connection with three fires that were set earlier this month, including two at properties tied to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The department identified the suspect as 21-year-old Roman Lavrynovych, and he has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life. Lavrynovych was arrested over the fires on Tuesday.
The first fire was set on May 8, but the latest was on Monday at Starmer's family home in Kentish Town, in north London. Another fire was set on Sunday at Starmer's property in Islington. The first fire was also tied to Starmer but was a vehicle fire.
No one was injured in any of the fires, and Starmer currently resides at 10 Downing Street, which is the official residence of current British prime ministers.
Lavrynovych is expected to make his first court appearance on Friday, at the Westminster Magistrates' Court.
