UN Human Rights report says Russia committed war crimes, possibly crimes against humanity in Ukraine
Russia has denied allegations of war crimes, but the Kremlin has not yet responded to the U.N.'s latest report.
The United Nations Human Rights Council's Ukraine commission said in a report Thursday that Russian authorities committed war crimes and may have even committed crimes against humanity during their country's invasion of Ukraine.
"The war crimes include attacks on civilians and energy-related infrastructure, wilful killings, unlawful confinement, torture, rape and other sexual violence, as well as unlawful transfers and deportations of children," the U.N. Human Rights Office said.
Russia's waves of attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and its "pattern of torture" of Ukrainians could amount to crimes against humanity, but the matter needs to be investigated future, the commission said.
Vice President Kamala Harris last month said the U.S. determined that Russia committed crimes against humanity during the invasion of Ukraine.
