Gunmen kill American aid worker in Baghdad

Gunmen killed an American aid worker living in Baghdad, Iraq, on Monday, authorities have confirmed.

The American was reportedly living in the Karrada district and was on his way home when one car cut him off before the gunmen in a separate car opened fire, according to the Associated Press.

The man's wife and child were in the car, but were unharmed. The motive for the attack remains unclear, though the U.S. embassy told the outlet an investigation was in progress. His identity has not yet been made public. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killing.

Attacks on foreigners in Iraq's capital city have become a rarity since the fall of the Islamic State, the outlet noted.
