President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, Maryam Rajavi, on Wednesday told the European Parliament the only way to bring about peace in the Middle East is a "regime change" in Iran, which is now exchanging air strikes with Israel.

She told members of the parliament of the European Union the change must be made by the "people of Iran and the organized resisters," according to ABC News.

She spoke as Israel and President Trump suggest the next step after the air strikes, which started last week, would be removing Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei – amid failed negotiations between the U.S. and Iran for Tehran to stop the enrichment of uranium for the development of a nuclear weapon.

Rajavi said that the initial attack by Israel demonstrates "the beginning of a critical new chapter, both in Iran's internal crisis and the broader dynamics of the region."

Khamenei said Wednesday that Iran will not surrender, amid Trump's calls to do so.
