ABC News shifts first Biden interview since debate into primetime slot

The media organization ABC News on Wednesday changed its slot for President Joe Biden's interview to air as a "primetime special" on Friday night instead of Sunday morning.

The interview will be the first televised interview for the president since he debated former President Donald Trump in the first presidential debate last week. Biden's performance shocked many Democrats, and left them wondering if he was able to physically handle the presidency for another four years.

Biden has admitted to insiders that the next several days will be critical for his reelection bid, according to CNN, but the president is not planning to withdraw from the race. Biden has also admitted that he should not have traveled internationally so much before a debate, and cited the fatigue from his excursions as contributing to his performance.

The president will be interviewed by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, and the interview will air at 8 p.m. Eastern, ABC News reported. But a clip of the interview will still air at 6:30 p.m. Eastern during "World News Tonight." 

ABC News said the interview will be conducted on the campaign trail earlier in the day, but that an unedited transcription of the interview will be released on Friday night, per CNN.

The interview will air again in its entirety on Sunday, followed by additional commentary and analysis.

ABC News is also expected to host the second and final presidential debate in September.
