Disney has decided to scale back its premiere of its controversial live action remake of "Snow White," amid backlash from a range of people.

The film, which is set to premiere at movie theaters on March 21, will not have a normal star-studded event in Los Angeles, but will have a smaller premiere and pre-party at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood on March 15.

The stars of the film, Latina actress Rachel Zegler, 23, and Gal Gadot, will both still attend the smaller premiere but will not be speaking to the press about the film. Instead, coverage will be limited to photographers and a house crew, per Variety.

The movie has faced backlash over its portrayal of dwarfs, Zegler's casting as the lead role, and global politics after Zegler expressed support for Palestine in Israel's war with Hamas, while Gadot, who is Israeli, has supported Israel.

Zegler has said that the plot of the movie has been redone to focus on a more feminist Snow White who does not long for a Prince Charming, though a Prince Charming will still be in the film.

"She’s not going to be saved by the prince," Zegler told Variety in 2023. "She’s not going to be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be.”

Disney has also canceled its star-studded UK premiere of the film, and will hold a series of closely monitored press events instead.
