Charles Kushner confirmed as US ambassador to France

The Senate on Monday night confirmed Charles Kushner, father of Jared Kushner, as the new U.S. Ambassador to France and Monaco in a largely party-line 51-45 split.
Kushner, who President Donald Trump nominated for the post in November, is the father-in-law of Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump. He was pardoned by the president for federal tax evasion and Federal Election Commission violations in 2020.
Trump has celebrated Kushner as a "tremendous business leader" and a great entrepreneur who served on prominent boards such as New York University.
The confirmation did feature one senator crossover from both sides. Republican Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski voted against Kushner's confirmation, while New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker voted to confirm him.
Kushner reflected on his previous legal issues during his Senate confirmation hearing earlier this month, arguing they made him even more equipped for the post.
"I think that my past mistakes actually make me… better in my values to really make me more qualified to do this job," he told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, per Fox News.
Committee Chairman Jim Risch, R-Idaho, celebrated the businessman's confirmation in a post on X.
"Congratulations to our newest U.S. ambassador to France, Charles Kushner," the senator posted. "The U.S. relationship with its oldest ally is in good hands with you at the helm."
