Grassley releases emails showing former FBI agent 'celebrating' Peter Navarro indictment
The senator shared the emails with Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel in a letter sent Tuesday, but publicly released the letter and email on Thursday.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley on Thursday published emails between FBI agents who worked under the Biden administration and appear to have celebrated the indictment of President Donald Trump advisor Peter Navarro in 2022.
The senator shared the emails with Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel in a letter sent Tuesday, but publicly released the letter and emails on Thursday.
The emails show exchanges between Special Agent Walter Giardina, Supervisory Special Agent Blaire Toleman, and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault, regarding the upcoming arrest of Navarro over contempt of Congress charges for not complying with a January 6 Committee subpoena.
"I am making these emails public in the interest of transparency," Grassley wrote in the letter. "The American people have a right to know as much as possible regarding the internal Biden Justice Department and FBI process to determine where to allocate taxpayer resources to investigate and prosecute former Trump officials."
In one exchange, Toleman forwarded Thibault an email informing him that the bureau would like to indict Navarro on June 2, 2022. Thibault then responded, "Wow, great."
Another email updated Thibault on the FBI's plan to arrest Navarro on either June 3, or June 7, 2022.
"Never forget how the Biden admin used the full force of [government] to target its political enemies while crime ran rampant," Grassley said in a post on X. "Today I released records from 2022 showing FBI officials planning & CELEBRATING Peter Navarro's indictment. That same [year] violent crime rose 4.5% per FBI's own stats."
