Rep. Miller-Meeks says members of Congress have to show leadership in wake of Kirk assassination
Miller-Meeks condemned the assassination of Kirk and the shootings in Minnesota of Democratic politicians and said political violence needs to end.
Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa., said Friday that members of Congress have to turn the temperature down in the wake of the assassination of Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk and lead.
"We have a level of responsibility as members of Congress and as elected leaders and that's to bring down the temperature," she said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "I don't ridicule or call people names when I'm in hearings."
Miller-Meeks condemned the assassination of Kirk and the shootings in Minnesota of Democratic politicians and said political violence needs to end.
"One of the things that I heard Charlie Kirk say was when all the world seems to have dissolved into chaos, and I'm paraphrasing, so this is not an exact quote, it's time to unplug, be with your family, be with your faith and get off the internet and reconnect back with that human connection," she said.
Kirk was murdered Wednesday by suspected shooter Tyler Robinson, who is expected to be charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, and obstruction of justice.
Utah County attorney Jeff Gray plans to file charges on Tuesday, with Robinson's first court appearance to be at 3 p.m. that day, according to TMZ.
