GOP Sens. Thom Tillis of North Carolina announced his retirement after voting against advancing President Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" in the Senate on Saturday evening.

The final vote was 51-49 and the bill ultimately moved forward.

Trump attacked Tillis and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky social media for voting against the measure.

“Thom Tillis has hurt the great people of North Carolina,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday. “Even on the catastrophic flooding, nothing was done to help until I took office. Then a MIRACLE took place! Tillis is a talker and complainer, NOT A DOER!”

Trump said Tillis is “even worse than Rand ‘Fauci’ Paul."

Tillis opposed the bill mainly due to its Medicaid reform provisions

"In Washington over the last few years, it's become increasingly evident that leaders who are willing to embrace bipartisanship, compromise, and demonstrate independent thinking are becoming an endangered species," Tillis said when announcing his retirement from the Senate.

Paul has said the bill doesn't do enough to reduce federal spending while the tax cut provisions are projected to raise the national debt by about $3 trillion over 10 years.
