Vice President JD Vance hosted a dinner for some Republican senators Wednesday night following the testy exchange earlier in the day between President Donald Trump and Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy over the senator’s vote in favor of a war powers resolution calling on the administration to withdraw U.S. troops from the war with Iran.

Following the dinner, the Senate voted on it again, and this time the vote on a nearly identical war powers resolution failed, handing Trump a victory, as Cassidy changed his vote to a “no,” and Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., changed his vote to “present.”

After his meeting with Trump, Cassidy told reporters that he would not “be bullied into silence.” Then, according to The Hill, Cassidy passed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff a note seeking a briefing on the situation with Iran.

“Steve, I would consider changing my vote, but I’ve been voting yes because I’ve not been briefed,” Cassidy recalled writing to Witkoff, according to CBS. “He said, ‘Call me back in the hour and let’s have a briefing.’ We had it last night.”
