British officials say U.S. visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla Monday proceeding as planned
The visit will be the first time a British monarch has come to the U.S. since the late Queen Elizabeth visited in 2007.
Security concerns following Saturday's shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner Saturday haven't changed the British monarchs' plans to visit the U.S. Monday.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement Sunday that King Charles III and Queen Camilla will fly to the U.S. as planned, Politico reported.
“Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day, and acting on advice of Government, we can confirm the state visit by their majesties will proceed as planned,” the palace said.
The visit will be the first time a British monarch has come to the U.S. since the late Queen Elizabeth visited in 2007. The palace said Monday's visit will be an opportunity to recognize shared history between Britain and the U.S., and to discuss economic and security issues.
