Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared Friday the Strait of Hormuz "completely open after the implementation of a U.S.-mediated ceasefire that paused Israeli operations in Lebanon.

"In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire, on the coordinated route as already announced by Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Rep. of Iran," Araghchi posted to X

President Donald Trump thanked Iran after the announcement.

"IRAN HAS JUST ANNOUNCED THAT THE STRAIT OF IRAN IS FULLY OPEN AND READY FOR FULL PASSAGE. THANK YOU!" the president posted to Truth Social

Iranian negotiators have tied demands for a ceasefire in Lebanon to its willingness to negotiate an end to the conflict with the United States. Before the pause in fighting, Israel was targeting the terrorist group Hezbollah, which is a proxy group supported by Tehran. Hezbollah has become a powerful paramilitary force and political party in Lebanon that challenges the authority of the official Lebanese government.
