Massive job cuts start taking place at US health agencies

Job cuts at federal health agencies began Tuesday as some employees have received notices that their jobs had been terminated. 

How many jobs are being cut was unclear as of Tuesday morning, but some employees at health departments lost access to be able to get into buildings, CNN reports.

Last week the Health and Human Services Department announced it would be cutting 10,000 jobs as the agency undergoes a reconstruction plan. 

The workforce will drop from 82,000 to 62,000 positions.

Some agencies that are being impacted by this week's cuts include the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“This [reduction in force] action does not reflect directly on your service, performance or conduct,” according to an email given to a former CDC employee obtained by CNN.

The email was sent by Thomas J. Nagy Jr., who serves as the deputy assistant secretary for human resources at HHS.
