Trump halting $175M to University of Pennsylvania for letting males compete against women
Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas competed for the private university.
The University of Pennsylvania is losing $175 million in federal funding, at least temporarily, for letting males who identify as women, such as its record-breaking transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, compete against females in sports, the White House's official "rapid response" X account confirmed Wednesday, sharing a Fox Business TV report.
"This is just a taste of what could be coming down the pike for Penn," reporter Hillary Vaughn said, paraphrasing a "senior administration official." The funding reportedly comes from the departments of Defense and Health and Human Services.
Penn is currently under Title IX investigation for letting Thomas compete against women, use women's locker rooms and allegedly expose male genitalia to female athletes, according to Vaughn. Thomas could not compete for the U.S. Olympic team after graduating due to the rules of "swimming’s international governing body," The New York Times reported.
