DHS reveals Mexican criminals have placed alleged bounties on ICE, Border Patrol officers
The plot includes a tiered bounty system that allegedly pays people $2,000 to gather information on ICE and Border Patrol officials, $5,000 to $10,000 to kidnap or attack officials, and up to $50,000 to assassinate high-ranking officials.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday announced it has received credible information about an alleged plot from Mexico to pay bounties for attacks on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol officers.
The alleged plot stems from Mexican criminals, who have offered to pay American gangs and domestic extremist groups in Chicago and Portland to target, assassinate or harass ICE and Border Patrol officers amid the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration and high crime rates.
The plot includes a tiered bounty system that allegedly pays people $2,000 to gather information on ICE and Border Patrol officials, $5,000 to $10,000 to kidnap or attack officials, and up to $50,000 to assassinate high-ranking officials.
“These criminal networks are not just resisting the rule of law, they are waging an organized campaign of terror against the brave men and women who protect our borders and communities,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said. “Our agents are facing ambushes, drone surveillance, and death threats, all because they dare to enforce the laws passed by Congress.
"We will not back down from these threats, and every criminal, terrorist, and illegal alien will face American justice," she added.
DHS said Antifa groups in Portland and Chicago have provided logistical support for cartels, including doxxing federal law enforcement officers. Americans who doxx agents for the Mexican cartels can be paid $2,000 under the bounty system.
The revelation comes after the Justice Department alleged last week that a suspected Chicago gang leader offered to pay $10,000 to anyone who killed a senior Border Patrol officer involved in Operation Midway Blitz.
