The Department of Homeland Security has reportedly signed a new deal to purchase six Boeing 737 planes that it will use for deportations, which the department claimed Wednesday will save American taxpayers $279 million.

The deal is worth nearly $140 million, sources told the Washington Post, and is being covered by some of the funds the department received in the One Big Beautiful Bill earlier this year.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement previously relied on charter planes to carry out deportation flights, but the new fleet is expected to help streamline the Trump administration's mass deportations and save American taxpayer money.

"These planes will allow ICE to operate more effectively, including by using more efficient flight patterns," Assistant DHS Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin posted on X. "President Trump and [Homeland Security] Secretary [Kristi] Noem are committed to quickly and efficiently getting criminal illegal aliens OUT of our country."

The deal comes as the Trump administration aims to deport one million migrants by the end of the year, but border czar Tom Homan said there have been 579,000 removals so far, and 66,000 migrants are still being held in detention.
