State Department adds South Asian group to terror list
Balochistan is a region in southeastern Iran and southern Pakistan and home to the Baluchi people.
The State Department on Monday designated the Majeed Brigade, aka the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO).
Under the name BLA, the group received a designation as a specially designated global terrorist (SDGT) organization in 2019. The Monday announcement reflects a determination that the Majeed Brigade is an alias for BLA.
Balochistan is a region in southeastern Iran and southern Pakistan and home to the Baluchi people. The BLA is an ethnonationalist terror group that primarily operates in the Pakistani portion of the area.
The group seeks the independence of Balochistan from Pakistan.
