Trump to send Patriot missiles to Ukraine as Congress mulls Russia sanctions
Putin “talks nice but then he bombs everybody in the evening," Trump told reporters.
President Donald Trump announced Sunday he will send Patriot missiles to Ukraine to fend off increasingly ferocious aerial attacks from Russia launched by Vladimir Putin.
Putin “talks nice but then he bombs everybody in the evening," Trump told reporters as he disclosed the air defense missiles would be heading to Kyiv and signaled his frustration with the Russian leader.
The American president did not disclose the number of Patriot missiles he plans to send to Ukraine but said the European Union would reimburse the United States for the shipments.
"They are going to pay us 100% for that, and that’s the way we want it,” Trump said.
The president comments came as senators prepared a bipartisan bill that would back Trump with tough new sanctions on Moscow. Debate on the legislation was expected to begin this week.
The bill will allow Trump “to go after Putin’s economy and all those countries who prop up the Putin war machine," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told CBS News.
