Trump endorses Andrew Cuomo for New York City mayor

"A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani," Trump said. "Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job."

President Donald Trump on Monday night endorsed former New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo for New York City mayor over Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa and Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani.

"A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!"

Mamdani, who calls himself a democratic socialist, became the Democratic nominee this past summer, forcing Cuomo to run as an independent. Mamdani currently leads in the polls, with Cuomo trailing in second place. However, if Sliwa supporters were to instead vote for Cuomo, he could defeat Mamdani.

Trump warned that if Mamdani wins the election on Tuesday night, then New York City would have "zero chance of success, or even survival," and that the city would only get worse under a "Communist" mayor.

"It is my obligation to run the Nation, and it is my strong conviction that New York City will be a Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster should Mamdani win," Trump said. "His principles have been tested for over a thousand years, and never once have they been successful. I would much rather see a Democrat, who has had a record of success, win, than a Communist with no experience and a record of complete and total failure."

Trump's last-minute endorsement comes after the president's ally and Tesla billionaire Elon Musk endorsed Cuomo, along with other billionaires like former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
