Mamdani announcing 'COGE' to cut waste in NYC budget
Though Mamdani was elected as a socialist outsider, he has since expressed concern over the viability of some of his proposals in light of the city's poor financial situation.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Thursday announced the creation of the "Commission on Government Efficiency" (COGE) to rein in the city's spending and work toward rectifying its finances.
The nomenclature immediately drew curious reactions from X users, many of whom noted the similarity to the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) that Democrats thoroughly criticized.
"This Commission will find ways for our city to work smarter, faster, and more effectively for working people. New Yorkers deserve a city government as careful with their money as they are," Mamdani said.
The scope of COGE's authority is unclear as of press time.
Though Mamdani was elected as a socialist outsider, he has since expressed concern over the viability of some of his proposals in light of the city's poor financial situation.
He also met with President Donald Trump at the White House, which drew criticism from the political left.
