Trump says won't make tariff deal with China unless trade deficit gets resolved
Trump said that a deal with China would only happen if China solves the surplus.
President Donald Trump says he won't make a deal with China over tariffs unless the trade deficit between the countries is resolved.
Trump said Sunday the United States has a $1 trillion trade deficit with China.
"Hundreds of billions of dollars a year we lose to China," he also said. "And unless we solve that problem, I’m not going to make a deal."
China announced Friday a 34% tariff on imports of all U.S. products that will go into effect this week, matching the one Trump announced last week for China, part of what Trump called reciprocal tariffs on a long list of U.S. trade partners.
