Democratic presidential hopefuls polled on what they'd do with Trump's ballroom if elected
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said she wasn't sure what to do with such a large space, but she might turn it into a soup kitchen or a community center.
Likely Democratic candidates for president in 2028 were polled on what they'd do with President Donald Trump's controversial ballroom if their campaigns end up being successful, with a couple saying they would tear it down.
In an informal NOTUS poll, the Democratic hopefuls across the country had different ideas about what they'd do with it, if the decision was theirs to make.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said she wasn't sure what to do with such a large space, but she might turn it into a soup kitchen or a community center. Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigeg also said he'd try to repurpose it for something he thinks is better.
Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., called the project "dirty" and being "built with corrupt money." This would make it hard for a president who wants to weed out corruption to allow the ballroom to remain standing, Murphy said.
Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., agreed that illegal acts the president has done, which include "architectural enhancements," need to be removed.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said he wouldn't be open to destroying something that's already built, but he thinks the question of what to do with the ballroom will be a litmus test for the candidates.
“But destruction is not strength," Newsom told NOTUS.
