President Donald Trump's pick to lead the Education Department, Linda McMahon, will face the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee for her confirmation hearing on Thursday morning.

Trump tapped McMahon, who served as co-chair of his transition team, last year. She previously led the Small Business Administration during Trump's first term, and served as chairwoman of the board for America First Policy Institute. She also co-founded World Wrestling Entertainment with her husband, Vince McMahon.

McMahon's confirmation hearing comes a week after the president announced that he would like to eliminate the Department of Education. If the president is successful, she would likely help downsize the department in anticipation of its abolition.

The nominee is expected to testify about her plans for the department, and reassure senators who are hesitant to confirm her because of her relatively short career in education. She previously served on the Connecticut State Board of Education for one year, and spent multiple years on the board of trustees for Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, per The Hill.

McMahon has also been a vocal advocate for school choice.

The Senate's confirmation hearing is currently scheduled to start at 10 a.m. EST.
